Shine Bright Scotland to Light Up The Dark
Tuesday 5th January 2021
The twelve days of Christmas end on the twelfth night, Epiphany or Epiphany Eve which is marked on either the 5th or the 6th of January (depending on whether the first day of Christmas is counted from 25th or 26th December). This is when traditionally the Christmas tree and decorations are taken down from people’s houses.
This year though, in much the same way as so many people put their Christmas decorations up early we at Ewen’s Room are joining in with the campaign from our friends at Shine Bright Scotland to leave your lights up, maybe even add a few more and carry on until the Spring Equinox on March 20th.
Shine Bright Scotland
Shine Bright Scotland started back in the autumn inspired by the rainbow art people displayed in their windows to thank the NHS and other key workers in the first lockdown in 2020. Knowing that this winter would be a difficult one for so many people, particularly those living alone, the organisers called on people across Scotland to put lights, candles and torches on display in their windows, porches and gardens and light up the dark with magic, twinkling, sparkling lights for all passing by to enjoy and to share on social media too, to connect us together even while we are apart.
Ewen’s Room Light Up The Dark
We launched our Light Up The Dark celebration project on winter solstice. As well as our creative competition, and planned stargazing, nature walks, storytelling and craft events we are inviting you not to take down your fairy lights along with your Christmas decorations this twelfth night, but to leave them up and share the photos of them with us. We’d love to see how you are going to Light Up The Dark this winter – the brighter the better!
More information about our Light Up The Dark events can be found on our Ewen’s Room facebook page. We’d love you to share with us and tag us on your social media lit up posts using @ewensroom and the hashtags #lightupthedark and #shinebrightscotland
If you are struggling to find light in the darkness don’t forget our Helpline and textline are open seven days a week offering a friendly ear to listen and support. Week days from 5-10pm and weekends from midday to 10pm our helpline is 0800 689 3317 and our textline is 07537 431637.
I thought it would be helpful today to talk about an aspect of mental health support, more specifically, peer support.
