Welcome to our new blog!

Hi everyone, welcome to Ewen’s Room’s brand-new blog! My name is Becky and I recently started working at Ewen’s Room. I will be helping out with our social media, communications and marketing.
I feel like I should introduce myself properly as the newest member of the close-knit Ewen’s room team. I live in Dalnabreck, and moved here in February from Glasgow. I’m from Fort Augustus originally, and my family have lived in Acharacle for the past 8 years or so. I absolutely love living in Ardnamurchan, and I’m excited to be able to use my experience in the charity sector to make a difference to such a worthy local cause.
In my spare time I enjoy going hill walking with my three dogs and running in the local area, and also do lots of kayaking and wild swimming (when the west coast weather allows!). I also have a fair bit of experience with mental health, as I have suffered from clinical depression and anxiety, and so this is a cause I am very passionate about. Ewen’s Room itself actually provided a lot of support for me when times were tough, so it’s so rewarding to be able to give back.
Over the next few weeks I will be posting updates to our blog about all manner of topics, including wellbeing tips, meet the team interviews with Ewen’s Room staff, guest feature interviews with local mental health workers, ways you can support us, and much more! My goal is to raise awareness about the fantastic services Ewen’s Room offer, and to open up a dialogue about mental health and wellbeing. In my opinion, despite a lot of progress over the past decade, there is still a stigma regarding mental health, making a lot of us feel unnecessary shame and embarrassment about suffering from illnesses which are so prevalent in today’s society. It’s my aim to contribute towards beating this stigma, one blog post at a time.
